After spending months yelling at lawmakers for not being able to carry out his promise to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, President Trump has taken a big step today to start dismantling the law put in place by President Obama.
On Thursday morning, Trump signed an executive order that he believes will make health insurance more affordable for millions of people.
According to a senior administration official who spoke to CNN, the executive order will “direct federal agencies to study how to make it easier for small businesses, and possibly individuals, to join together and buy health insurance.”
It will also “allow consumers to buy short-term policies, which don’t have to comply with Obamacare’s protections for those with pre-existing conditions” and “looks to broaden the ability of employers to give workers money to buy their own coverage.”
A number of insurance experts have criticized the order and said that it has the potential to seriously destabilize the insurance market.
